Discover the legend of Minos and the Minotaur with our Palace of Knossos in Crete Walking Tour, an exciting adventure in the places where myth and history come together. In your mythological journey you will be guided by a Evolved Guide certified local tourist guide who will tell you the story of one of the most important places in the Mediterranean. The Palace of Knossos was not only the royal residence but was also the seat of political and religious power of the great Minoan power. It had a first construction in 2000 BC. but a catastrophic event, the eruption of the Thera volcano, today’s Santorini, destroyed it in the second half of the seventeenth century BC; about a century after its destruction it was rebuilt.

The internal structure of the palace has impressive dimensions: an extension of more than 20,000 m2 and divided into 5 levels. It was arranged all around an internal clay court where athletes jumped on the bulls as it is represented in the famous fresco of bullfighting, now preserved in the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion. The throne room overlooked the central courtyard, where it is still possible to see the frescoed walls.

The Palace must have been very large, a real labyrinth; your local guide will be like your Ariadne’s thread and he/she will lead you to discover the most secret places and will make you discover the whole history of the Palace of Knossos without getting lost.

In addition to the archeology of the site, you will obviously discover the myths about it: the king Minos, the frightening Minotaur, the love story between Theseus and Ariadne.
