Zamosc is a Renaissance city whose historic center is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is located a few kilometers from the Roztocze National Park, a park characterized by lakes, rivers and forests. The city is named after its founder Jan Zamoyski, a wealthy Polish merchant, who founded it in the late 16th century as a princely residence, military garrison and trade route between Northwest Europe and the Black Sea. The project was entrusted to Bernardo Morando, architect from Padua. Zamosc's resemblance to the architect's hometown gave rise to the nickname "Northern Padua".
